We still have a little over a month left of the winter season, so I figured this would be the perfect time to introduce the Seasonal skin care series! I will give out a tip at least once a week for each skin type (dry, oly, sensitive and combination) that will be most helpful in whatever season we are in! So, let's kick this off with our sensitive skin girls!
Winter can be a horrible season for those with sensitive skin, especially if you live in a cold climate region like me. A good homemade cleanser for those with either oily (or dry) sensitive skin is coconut oil x honey x baking soda. It's a safe way to remove make-up, gently exfoliates, and won't cause your skin to break out.
2 tsp Coconut Oil You could buy it in a jar, but I prefer to get it by block at my local health grocer. Be sure to refrigerate as it will melt.
2 tsp. Honey
1 tsp Baking Soda Substitute with Bentonite Clay if you don't want to use baking soda
*optional* Lavender or Vanilla Essential Oils *note: Please do not use if you have allergies or if your skin is sensitive to fragrance
- Mix ingredients together in a small bowl until the consistency is that of a smooth, creamy texture
- Take a small amount rub between fingers using body heat to soften the mixture a little bit
- Apply to face and let sit 2 minutes
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water
Sensitive Skin comes in a variety of forms. If you have oily skin, I suggest you not add the honey (as the coconut oil will suffice for moisture) and use the bentonite clay instead of the baking soda (it absorbs more dirt, oil and impurities. If you have really dry sensitive skin, keep the honey or double up on the coconut oil as you see fit.
