Sometimes, I get requests to do certain product reviews and skin care routines. A friend of mine, Jen Combs (hay girl), who also suffers from oily skin asked me to provide my skin care routine to manage breakouts and oil. I've have blogs up before about certain products, but didn't provide an actual skin care walk through. This is for you guys!
You need a great exfoliating product that rids your skin of the dead cells and the oils. I use a cleansing exfoliation scrub: Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Scrub (stock up on this because it will be off shelves soon due to the whole microbead fiasco *rolls eyes*). You can get this at drug stores for a little over $7 or you can buy a pack of 3 for $24.56 here.
If you are acne prone or hormonal like me, you want a wash that is gentle yet effective in clearing pores. I use the Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser. I LOVE this wash. Just LOVE. It does make your face feel weird on application, but really draws that dirt to the surface. Make sure you rinse well. Get it for $5.79 here. If you have more sensitive skin, or just don't need a DEEP Clean, Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser will do the trick. This is my go to when my skin actually behaves. Get a 16fl oz bottle for $10.79 here.
I don't recommend doing a mask daily. Maybe once a week (twice if your skin is problematic).I literally have like 164978231058 masks that I am obsessed with, so I will give you my favorite (for this week lol). The Glam Glow Super Mud literally pulls all dirt to the surface of your face. As it dries, you can even seen some of those impurities. Keep in mind, it is bringing dirt to the surface so you might have a breakout or two after application. It's a little pricey, but worth it. Get it for $69 here. If you don't want to make that investment, go into Sephora and at the checkout kiosk they have miniature ones for $20.
Much like washing, my toner of choice depends on the season (and time of the month). If you are fighting acne, use the Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads. I'll use these and my breakouts will clear up within 2 days no lie. It can be drying, so be sure you don't skip moisturizing. Buy it for $7.21 here. A more gentle toner would be Formula 10.0.06 toner, buy it here. If you are looking for an effective toner that is alcohol free? Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera you can buy it for $10.31 here.
It is so important to not skip this step. Oily chicks think that because our skin produces hella oils that we aren't supposed to moisturize. WRONG. Not moisturizing ages you quicker! I discovered an extremely LIGHT moisturizer that won't add to your oil woes. My go to is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost- Water Gel. I wrote an actual product review on it and you can read up on it here. The direct link to purchase it for $15.29 is here.
